Alicia had taken Tom skydiving for his recent birthday, but was definitely not keen to take the leap herself. So when her birthday rolled around and Tom kept asking her “are you ready to jump?” she was terrified! Little did she know that he had planned an epic marriage proposal on a rowboat complete with home-made pancakes, music and a ring hidden in the esky.

“I was so nervous and then we got to Studley Park Boathouse and I thought, why would they do skydiving here when there are so many trees around? That’s really dangerous, I am really going to die now!”

Tom was determined to pop the question at a certain point on the river so people on the shore could take a photo, but his best laid plans were thwarted by a strong current and another boat that nearly crashed into them.

“I was holding her hand about to propose and this other couple nearly smacked into our row boat. The husband realised what we were doing so he kept apologising … but luckily he told his daughter on the shore to take a photo… Alicia was definitely surprised; she cried.”

It’s been more than 10 years since Alicia and Tom first got together when a random MSN message led to the realisation they’d gone to the same high school in different year levels. It’s been a busy decade with overseas trips, road trips, new careers and now they’re building a house and planning a wedding.

Luckily we managed to find some time to take these beautiful sunset engagement photos. We love the other-wordly feel to some of these shots. Who knew Braeside Park could look this good!

Alicia and Tom – all the best for a wonderful married life together filled with many more surprise adventures!
