I think we’ve said this before, but Iain and I feel enormously privileged to be asked to be a part of someone’s wedding day. I remember years ago an old friend and photographer telling us that one of his favourite parts of a wedding are the speeches, and at that stage we smiled politely and internalised our thoughts that he must be insane, but we’ve seen and heard some great speeches now, and it makes much more sense.

While after a day hanging out together we feel we get to know our couples quite well, the speeches are a chance to get a glimpse in to the couple’s “non-wedding” lives via their family and friends, as we did for Carlie and Dave a couple of weeks ago. We learnt that their idea of fun is jumping out of a helicopter to ski down a mountain (crazy!), Carlie’s love of all things pink (well, we already knew that one!) and Dave’s successful conversion of Carlie’s palate from passion pop to fine wine – but not red wine yet, he’s still working on that one :) Carlie and Dave’s speeches were hilarious, and although poor Dave copped it pretty badly, the speeches said a lot about this couple, their families and the people they’ve surrounded themselves with.
