For many couples, planning a wedding is hard enough… well try planning two celebrations, in just three days! To see more about Evelyn and Darren’s traditional Nigerian wedding, click here. Or read on to experience wedding number 2!

Darren always said he would never marry a girl that he met inside a club… luckily he met Evelyn outside the club, because his group couldn’t get in! On this particular cold and wet Melbourne night four years ago, they were both at a mutual friend’s birthday. Inappropriately dressed for the weather, Evelyn snuggled up to “this cute guy in a jacket in hopes he’d let me share his warmth and he did”. Darren says on that night:

“I found my soul mate and partner in crime.”

Evelyn thought of herself as a strong and independent woman who didn’t need a man, but then Darren came along and changed everything.

“Although we are so different, we complement each other so well and falling in love happened so effortlessly. You are my soul mate and the love of my life.”

Their wedding celebrations lasted two days, starting with a traditional Nigerian function and then two days later it was time to celebrate all over again, this time with a church ceremony at the magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral in the CBD, followed by a lavish reception at Leonda by the Yarra.

Crowds of tourists and Christmas shoppers stopped to stare and take photos when Evelyn alighted from a huge black Hummer in front of St Paul’s. And then again after the ceremony when the church steps were crowded with guests in colourful Nigerian dresses and head scarves. We managed to escape the crowds for some photos over in a quiet corner of Federation Square before heading to Leonda for a much-needed refresh before the reception began.

With special performances by DJ Walexy, the white monogrammed dance floor got a good work out with guests from Canada, Nigeria, Mauritis and USA all showing off their dance moves. But it was a first dance by Evelyn and Darren surrounded by smoke and fireworks that stole the show, until it was time to leave on a boat down the Yarra.

Evelyn and Darren – it was a pleasure to first meet you last year at Shiju and Eugene’s wedding, and it’s been great getting to know you since then. Thankyou so much for including us in your family celebrations and customs – if the rest of your life is surrounded by as much love as on your wedding day, you’re in good hands.
