Both sports nuts, it was fate that Kathryn and Tim would first meet at an AFL Grand Final house party of mutual friends back in 2011. Kat’s beloved Geelong Cats had just beaten Tim’s Collingwood Magpies, but that didn’t stop them talking, sharing a cheeky kiss and not leaving each other’s sides all night. The chivalrous Tim then escorted Kat in a taxi from Richmond to Ringwood, memorised her phone number and the rest is a wonderful history.
Since getting together, the couple have faced their own fair share of challenges to overcome but that hasn’t stopped their determination to make the other “the best us we can be”. Tim has been vision impaired since he was 21 but that proved no hurdle when it came to planning and travelling to Thailand together in 2012 and again for a European adventure in 2014.
In fact, Kat actually says meeting Tim was love at no sight: “It sounds strange, but the first thing I noticed about Tim was his incredible soft powder blue eyes … Being with Tim is the greatest thing that could have happened to me.”
And the feeling is mutual: “Kat is a really intelligent person who is really fun to be around … essentially she is completely different to anyone I had ever met before.”
The morning of their wedding day started well; bathed in sunshine under a brilliant blue sky, there was no hint of the rain to come. It wasn’t until Kat had just walked down the church aisle to meet her beloved when the heavens opened and the torrential rain pretty much didn’t stop for the rest of the day. That’s Melbourne for you!
Plans were quickly changed but it was fortunate Kat and Tim had booked such a spectacular reception venue so we could arrive early and take some photos before they joined their bridal party (aka “motley crew of giants”) for some drinks. Overlooking the Magpies’ hallowed turf with the lights of AAMI Park providing a beautiful backdrop, The Glasshouse was an obvious choice for these sports fans.
And the extra-large dancefloor was put to good use with an incredibly energetic and impressive first dance by Kat and Tim. He might be vision impaired but Tim definitely has some moves!
Kat and Tim, we wish you the best of luck in your journey together as husband and wife. May your life be like a real-life Disney movie and you live happily ever after.
