Choosing a venue is usually one of the toughest decisions when planning a wedding, but when your parents own a beautiful rural property in Merricks, there’s really not that much to think about. Katie and George tied the knot in front of their family and friends just metres from the spot where George’s parents married 43 years before.
Katie and George first met at the Arcadia Hotel a decade ago, but it took them eight years to realise they were meant for each other. (We’re not sure what’s in the drinks at Arcadia, but our last wedding couple also first met at the same pub!) There was a distinct English theme with Katie arriving at the ceremony in a London black cab as a nod to her home country, Katie’s mum and sister travelling over from the UK and celebrant Wendy McRae‘s English accent making it all official (we’re not sure that’s why they chose her though!) Even though Katie’s nan-ma was unable to attend, she was still very much a part of the day thanks to a very long skype phone call and a special speech read out by 7 year old bridesmaid Isabelle.
The best thing about a marquee wedding is that you can really make it your own and we loved quirky touches such as bowls of Allens lollies and Smiths chips to represent their respective surnames and the incredible wedding cheesecake created with wheels of local cheeses; these guests did not go hungry!
Katie and George, we hope you guys had a wonderful day and night. And if you see any other new romances blooming at the Arcadia, feel free to pass on our card ;)
