Not many couples have Collingwood Magpies to thank for giving them a second chance to make a first impression, but Kylie and Nathan can. The pair first met at a pub, watching the infamous drawn 2010 AFL Grand Final with mutual friends. They got along really well and realised when the siren went, they would have a ready-made second date the following Saturday for the GF replay!

“Nathan is very lovely, easy to talk to and not at all pretentious. He is very keen on dad jokes, he tries to be funny with really bad jokes but people laugh more at him than the jokes.”

Like all relationships, Kylie and Nathan’s had its ups and downs and they even separated for a few years. It was a chance encounter while Nathan was out for a run, closely followed by a mutual friend’s 40th birthday party that brought them back together.

When it came to the proposal, Nathan knew he wanted to do it during their European holiday. After an entire day walking around the beautiful Italian coastal village of Positano, both were exhausted. So, when Nathan suggested an after-dinner drink on their terrace overlooking the city, Kylie was not keen. He was convincing though, the pair chatted about the awesome day they’d had and how lucky they were to travel to such beautiful places. Then all of a sudden, Nathan pulled a ring out of his pocket, shoved it in Kylie’s face and blurted out, ‘will you marry me?’

“There was no down on one knee, no spiel; he just had to get the ring out of his pocket and ask before he lost all courage to do it. I was very taken aback and didn’t see it coming at all … but he did a good job of the location, it was really beautiful.”

Turns out Kylie’s parents had known for a long six weeks and were looking forward to seeing their daughter join them in Malta the following week, with a ring on her finger, so Nathan was working to a deadline!

And so, Kylie and Nathan were married at Xavier College Chapel, where Nathan attended school as a boarder. We took some photos with the view of the city skyline before heading to South Wharf for their reception at Aerial.

While there was much talk in the speeches about what footy team their future kids will barrack for, Kylie’s words stole the show:

“He has the kindest heart and most beautiful soul than anyone I know. I feel like we have reached the top of a mountain and I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone.”

Best of luck for a wonderful marriage guys, it’s all downhill from here!
