I love a surprise. The kind that’s so big that you have to lie to everybody you know for months just to set it up. And it’s all worth it. Clearly Rebecca and Josh do too.
So when Rebecca and Josh “recruited” me into the small group of people who knew what was actually going to happen at the Sandhurst Golf Club tonight, I was excited. Photographing an engagement-turned-wedding has been on my bucket list for a while, and for one reason or another has never actually happened until now.
Rebecca looked stunning, and her dress must have raised suspicions a bit from relatives who sensed that the event was all a bit bigger than an engagement party. The highlight of the night for me was when Rebecca’s Aunty asked my “assistant” if she knew whether this was actually a wedding, without realising that she wasn’t a photography assistant at all but a very-poorly-disguised celebrant (the lovely and talented Wendy McRae)! Wendy must have been very pleased to know that her act of holding a lens in her hand and talking loudly about f-stops and shutter speeds had worked so well. She was less pleased about having to look poor Sue in the face and lie, but it was all worth it and forgiven I’m sure in the end!
When Josh grabbed the mic and let the cat out of the bag, the crowd went wild, and right through the ceremony the tears and shock kept flowing.
